About the Department

CAPABILITIES

KIMS Department of Cardiology is well equipped with an ultra modern intensive Coronary Care Unit, a modern cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Echocardiography and other non invasive investigation facilities under one roof.

The Department is supervised by six full time Senior Consultant Cardiologists and a team of full time Residents, Postgraduate Fellows and a full fledged team of Cardiovascular Technologists.

We are geared to handle even the most complex cases, with every process structured to ensure that patient care and comfort takes precedence over everything else.

SERVICES

KIMS offers a comprehensive range of Cardiology services round the clock, including:

• Acute Emergency Cardiac Care under the direct supervision of a Senior Consultant.
• Emergency Primary Angioplasty for heart attack patients

KIMS Department of Cardiology also provides the following sub specialty cardiology services by specially trained doctors and technologists:

• Emergency Cardiac Care
• Cardio Vascular Invasive Diagnostic and Intervention procedures
• Two D-Color Doppler Echocardiography
• Stress Echocardiography
• Trans Esophageal Echocardiography
• Electro Physiology/RF Ablation etc.

We have IVUS with virtual histology and chroma flow for optimal deployment of drug eluting stents, and FFR for lesion security assessment and prognostification following angioplasty and stent.

Regular follow up for treated patients is carried out through different specialty clinics for Hypertension, Prosthetic Valve, Pacemaker follow up, Heart Failure etc.

ACHIEVEMENTS

All the Senior Consultants at KIMS are well trained and experienced in Cardiology Interventions including complex interventions. Since the inception of the hospital we have performed:

• Over 20000 diagnostic procedures
• Over 3000 cardiology interventions like Coronary Angioplasty/Stenting, Renal Angioplasty, Carotid Stenting, Peripheral Angioplasty, Balloon Mitral/Pulmonary /Aortic Valvuloplasties, Device closures, Aortic Stent Grafts, etc.

Device closure procedures and Interventions for various Congenital Defects are routinely done.

ACADEMICS

KIMS Department of Cardiology is recognized by the National Board of Examinations and Indira Gandhi Open University for Super Specialty Post Graduate training in Cardiology. We offer a regular teaching programme and clinical case discussions to impart high standard training for Postgraduate Fellows and Diploma Students.

ACTIVITIES and EVENTS

KIMS fosters a culture of continuous learning and imparting of knowledge. We accomplish this through regular interaction with our peers from the medical field. We believe that we have been given a torch and it is up to us not only to keep it burning but to pass it on. We thus host various events for sharing and dissemination of medical knowledge, including the following:

• Drug Eluting Symposium 2005 live workshop
• Trans Radial Complex Coronary Intervention workshop
• Live workshop for National CSI-2007 KIMS

We have also participated in various national and international events, including:

• National Interventional Council Midterm meeting- 2009 live cases done from KIMS.
• Live case from KIMS for 3rd Indo European Chapter Revascularization at PARIS on Nov 4th 2009.
• Live case from KIMS for 3rd Revascularization at Delhi on Dec 20th 2009.
